new spam and new layout

Wow, I got spam with the subject “Get A Free* XM Radio.” Asterisk!!

Is spam going in a new direction? “Yes it is free but there ARE catches, and we tell you right off the bat”…

I don’t like asterisks. Especially on fast food bags. There’s no asterisk-y note at the bottom or anywhere else on the bag!! It drives me insane, ’cause then I don’t know what this company is hiding from me. *shifty eyes* Or in car commercials where the little note at the bottom isn’t legible even on our big screen tv.

Yes I’m a freak and like reading those little notes. ^^;; I like seeing how things are really different than what they say. So it’s a lie … but you’re supposed to know it’s a lie, if you take the time to read it.

Also … oh yeah, WordPress doesn’t save triple line breaks. Pooh. Anyway. New layout coming up fairly soon. I started it as a header for a Livejournal layout, not necessarily for me. But … I ended up liking it so much that I’m putting it on my bloggie. ^^ And I am not a fangirl!!

older than you’ve ever been…

Okay, I don’t remember any other instances, but lately I’ve been getting hit with these moments where I go, Whoa, I’m getting older.

Like last Friday (or maybe it was the previous Friday) Mickey was pulling out of the driveway and driving down the street and I just found it so odd that My Brother Owns a Car. A whole, big, huge car. That is many many many times his size and weight. He’s never owned something so big. And he’s in control of it.

That may be odd enough … but I’m sure I’ve had that feeling at least once more.

And … I have a car. I don’t find that as odd for some reason. Maybe because of that whole … this is the oldest I’ve ever been, I can’t remember being older, all my previous memories are from the standpoint of … this is the oldest I’ve ever been.

I’m probably rambling. Oh well.

It’s not like I don’t like not being a kid anymore, or growing old (I hope I’m not that superficial >_>) … I guess it’s just how things change. I don’t go home after school every day anymore and play with my brothers!

I was thinking of Micro Machines either earlier today or over the weekend, also. Micro Machines? I don’t know, these little car things … smaller than Hot Wheels … they also sold these … playsets, or something, when they’re open the cars can drive all over them up in the mountain and down to the gas station, and when they’re closed it was a gasoline can. I forget what the other one was.

Bah! *goes about doing something else*

mixed race

On a quiz I’m taking…

Interracial marriage is…
…not something I would consider
…a beautiful thing, because race doesn’t matter
…fine for the couple, but hard on the kids

Maybe it’s stupid of me, but I never seriously thought about that. I mean, I’ve thought of the mixed nationalities thing, like … a kid would have two different countries’ cultures to inherit. Or, if I were to adopt an African kid (there was a report on the news saying a lot of American children were being adopted in Canada, and that’s because the kids aren’t white), how the hell would I teach this kid about his or her African heritage? I never really thought about … race, per se. Like, a kid who wasn’t in one group, or another, so where exactly do they belong? No where. Like this one person, whose blog I’m reading. Yes, I’m naive, yes, I grew up in a school that was diverse … I just never thought about it.

The outside world is a scary place.

LA, LA

I hope this entry won’t seem like I’m belittling these incidents (because God knows they’re creeping the heck out of me).

“Racially Charged Incidents Rattle L.A.” ← headline on Yahoo.

“…the inland suburbs of Los Angeles…”   “…Riverside and San Bernardino counties…” ← in that article.

Yeah, ’cause Riverside and San Bernadino counties are included in the city boundaries of Los Angeles … I mean, I understand, who outside of Southern California has heard of Riverside or San Bernadino? They have to make it so other people understand where the general area is … but it still annoys me.

This one guy said online, I forget where I read it, all cities in California are L.A. :b I wish! (Well not really…) You should know that I really like L.A. Not all of it, but I like the convenience of everything, I like how it doesn’t have that really big city feeling unless you go downtown or something, I like the diversity, I like the weather (of course) … other things I can’t think of. I plan to never ever ever leave SoCal. And, I guess considering how not like L.A. other places in SoCal are … I’m never going to leave L.A.?

Not that I’m generalizing other places … I hope not … I know there are good areas and bad areas to every place. But this is what makes me feel like L.A. is a veritable little island paradise: hearing about white supremacist groups in Riverside and San Bernadino counties; knowing Simi Valley is (or was, I guess?) a white flight area, meaning whites who wanted to get away from minorities moved there; hearing about this one mosque that almost wasn’t in Orange County because churches were protesting its existence, saying that a mosque would create even more traffic and take away more parking spaces on Sundays (or in other words … “They’re taking my flock away from me!”). I dunno.

I’ve been … sort of living in Ventura County for the past three years … well, during the week, when I attend classes, and only fall/winter/spring. The one thing I’ve noticed about myself … last semester I was amazed at every single Asian face I saw … and this semester it’s not only Asian faces but every single non-white face. o_o WTF?! Every time I see a minority I just go “Wao! MINORITY! *gawk*” >_<

So … if anyone knows of a big city with absolutely no night life and has a lot of commercialization and diversity and nice weather and everything, tell me. I want to know my options when the Big One (earthquake) comes.

Oh yes, someone, anyone, try commenting on my tagboard?

splendaaaaa

Not that this has much to do with Jeff Gordon. :b But I looked up Splenda online ’cause I saw that commercial again, the one for Pepsi Edge where it flashes something like “50% less sugar with Splenda.” Here’s what I got:

http://www.holisticmed.com/splenda/

Chlorines? Euww. Regardless of whether sucralose is actually digested and absorbed by the body or not, I just don’t want chlorine going through me. >_>

C2 (which is what Pepsi Edge is copying) doesn’t have aspartame or sucralose or anything, but it does contain phenylalanine. I looked that up too. I couldn’t find anything much about that other than it’s something that the body needs naturally and that some people can’t have too much of it and I don’t really remember what else. But I found out tonight it’s one of the amino acids included in aspartame. That explains why, when one looks up phenylalanine, one gets lots of results for aspartame as well. :b

Not that I like C2 or anything. Mickey bought it, ’cause he’s a fan of Coca Cola (don’t ask). I think he, Mum, and Hidek tried it, and they liked it. Mickey offered one to me, but I didn’t want to drink it until I looked up phenylalanine, then after that I forgot about it. ^_^;; So whatever.

All I really know is I’m not drinking sugar-free hot cocoa mixes. And I’m not even sure about regular cocoa mix, either, ’cause the last ingredient was sucralose. I know it’s the very last, but I’m a freaky health-conscious person that way.

Matt once said he was drinking a diet soda. I wanted to scream at him, “Stop drinking it and don’t ever let it come to your lips for the rest of your life!!!” But I didn’t bother. >_> Yuck.

Grandma and Grandpa and Uncle R, they’ve drunk that stuff every day for the past 20? years or so. I remember being 8 and asking if I could have a sip of some diet drink or other and everyone would always say, “No, they don’t know if it’s safe for kids or not.” :b But anyway.

I read that aspartame could cause migraines. o.o Luckily the worst my grandparents suffer (luckily???) is memory loss. And we all thought Grandma was developing Alzheimer’s … *blink* But now Grandpa is just as bad.

Something else I looked up tonight … SM00 was watching Full House, and Bob Saget was playing the guitar, and it looked like he really was playing, so I looked into it, and found this page [famous people who play guitar on archive.org]. (Psst, look under politicians. Oh yeah. XD Vote for Kerry!) At first I was surprised that they listed Audrey Hepburn as being able to play guitar, but then I just remembered, duh, she played guitar in Breakfast at Tiffany’s! I like that song. ^^
