Howl’s Moving Castle

I finally saw Howl’s Moving Castle this weekend. Despite not really being interested in it when I first heard about it (from Neil Gaiman’s blog, actually), I loved it! :D Now I feel like reading the book. XD Because, you know, books are generally better than the movies that are based on them. Even if Hayao Miyazaki did the movie.

[edit@8:40pm] (It’s pi day! …I found that out on an LJ community. I don’t know why I never saw that before.)

I wonder if I annoy people with my Save the Environment!! and non-American(/UK/Australia/etc.) human rights!! I wonder mostly because I’m not vegan/vegetarian and not anti-leather. (I do feel guilty when I buy leather though. >.>) I understand why people are, it’s because of cruelty to animals (erm … that’s one of the two main reasons I hear), and I agree with it … but one person not buying meat products won’t make much of a difference. (I know all the arguments against my silly one, but I still think that way about meat.) The other reason, that animals just shouldn’t be killed period, I don’t agree with, but that’s just my beliefs (that everyone and everything is here for a reason, and some animals are here to provide sustenance, and that they agreed to it … yes I do sound insane), and if people feel differently then that’s fine with me.

But … I’m really writing rather poorly at the moment. Um. So I was just wondering. Because some people are more … I don’t know the word. They care about more things? And when they talk about it, I feel a bit put out, like Okay it’s fine for you but I feel differently. So. I was wondering if I annoyed people when I talk about stuff I care about. >_>

(The reason I’m not anti-leather is because I figure cows are killed for their meat, and we might as well not waste the rest of the body … right? Calfskin is another thing entirely though.)

Yesterday I found out that Converse was bought out by Nike. :o There go my plans for possibly buying a pair in the future. (For even though there is no proof that Nike uses slave labor for Converse shoes … I just won’t buy from Nike. And I wonder if there’s hypocrisy in that, because I still buy from Forever 21, and it’s been proven they used slave labor for some of their products…:x)

I found that out in an LJ community. haha. (…It was in reply to Neil Gaiman’s blog entry. ehehe) Then other people commented with the above links, and now I feel like buying from either or both companies, even though … I never really was into the look of those shoes. ^^;; (I mean, recently. I think I liked them as a child.) But it would mean spending money I don’t really have, on something I don’t really need nor want.

… Wow this entry is horrible.

fry fuel

This thought came to me while walking home from school …

You know how they’re turning used cooking oil into fuel for diesel engines? They say it smells like something. I don’t remember what. (Apple pie? O_o) And there was this episode of Dirty Jobs where this guy would take used oil from a Mexican restaurant and turn it into fuel for his diesel engine. It smelled like … something, I’m sure. I don’t recall.

Well, I was wondering, couldn’t McDonald’s take their old french frying oil and turn it into an alternative fuel? And hopefully it would smell like their fries. XD;; Good, influential advertising!

You’re driving along … “Mmm, I smell … let’s go to McDonald’s!”

(Yes, I did think I smelled fries while walking home. >.>)

sodaaaa

Usually I limit myself to one (12 oz.) can of soda a week, around the weekend. (And I don’t know how people can drink a soda a day, much less 2 or 3!) One: it keeps my genetically weak teeth from being eaten too much. Two: keeps down an “addiction” to sugar. Three: minimizes caloric intake. </end nutrition geek>

Last week I had a soda Thursday night, I don’t know how much that was, 12 oz.? Or closer to 16 oz.? (It had ice, so I don’t know.) Root beer, woo! Friday I went to lunch with Mum and Mickey; I had a Sprite in a 12 oz. can, but I didn’t finish it. Maybe 8 oz.? Saturday night, I had probably around 18 oz. of Dr. Pepper. (Yes I did have trouble falling asleep that night. *snerk*) Mum pulled out this 2 liter bottle of it and said we had to get rid of it. I don’t remember what it was from … New Year’s … even earlier, maybe. Sunday I mixed Dr. Pepper with orange juice for breakfast, maybe 6~8 oz.? It was … interesting. *g* I’d drink it again. Then for the trip back up here I had a 20 oz. bottle filled with more Dr. Pepper. Finished that on Monday.

In a course of 5 days I had … 64~70 ounces of carbonated sugar drink. x.x (Well, it’s better than that guy who was in Super Size Me [I saw that in nutrition on Thursday! XD] who drank a liter or two each day? *dies*)

So now … I want a sodee!! But … I feel like I shouldn’t. boo. Maybe a part of it is because I’m thirsty … so I’ll just go get myself some juice. (Although that still has high fructose corn syrup in it.)

archives plugin

For the past few days I’ve been trying to find an archives plugin that I liked. This is mostly for my dreamlog, since I’m so used to Diaryland’s archive setup, and I just got accustomed to having it that way while looking at my past dreams. But it’s a bonus for this blog.

The one that I think is perfect is CG Archives by Year, but only with his additional coding, so links to entries show up under each month. I e-mailed him asking about it, a week ago, and he hasn’t written back. I think he ’net-died. (His blog hasn’t been updated for a while.)

The Engineered Boulderer’s Super Archives Plugin comes in at a reluctant second. One, I’m not a fan of Javascripts. Perhaps because I just can’t get the hang of them just by looking at them. *snrk* Two, I don’t really like the way the archives are presented (three columns/whatever you choose). Three, Sometimes, if the page takes too long to load, when I hit the back button from the entry I’ve looked at, I’m sent back to the most recent year/month. Which, if I’m perusing my old dreams, would get annoying really quickly since I usually like reading the dreams that occurred around the same date.

Regardless, I was willing to use it, since I can’t find anything else that would show the entries by year. But I got a permission denied error, something about something (I understand the problem, I just can’t explain it), people comment about it on the plugin page. One guy posted something of a solution, but I don’t feel like editing stuff at the moment.

I also tried something from MtDewVirus but that didn’t work for some reason. I don’t remember what it was, but I probably couldn’t have fixed it without spending a lot of time on it, or I didn’t know what the heck was going on.

Right now I’m just using Clean Archives. It was nicest/most suited to my aesthetic tastes (or simplest?) of all the “list links to all blog entries on one page” plugins. It shows the archives as a link to the entry using the entry title, which is mostly what I wanted. But I have 100+ more dreams to add to my dreamlog, which is already at 550+ entries … so the archives page will take a very long time to load/scroll down indeed. :/

*sigh* Wish that guy would write back with his extra codes.

(And I spent 37 minutes on this entry. *blink*)
