Japan dresses down

In a nationwide campaign to save energy by cutting down on air conditioning, the government has asked public workers to leave their ties and jackets home for the summer.

The Environment Ministry campaign has nothing to do with loosening up Japan’s stodgy government ministries — and everything to do with meeting targets under the Kyoto global warming protocol. Tokyo needs to cut so-called greenhouse gas emissions to 6 percent below 1990 levels by 2012.

To help make the goal, air conditioners in government buildings will be set at a toasty 82, the maximum allowed by law. Offices usually keep the temperature at around 77.

The Energy Conservation Center estimates if all offices in Japan increase summer temperatures to 82, it could save 81 million gallons of oil in one summer.

O_o Is that why America turned that thing down? Sheesh … 82 … on an air conditioner! I have seriously never heard of it … I didn’t know there was such a setting … 77 even would have stretched my imagination. But 81 freaking million gallons of oil! *dreams*

(Yes I know America didn’t sign whatever it’s called because we pointed our fat finger at some other country who didn’t sign and said, “They waste a lot more! We don’t see how our waste will make that much of a difference compared to them!”)

chem nos.

Gah, I can remember 0.08206 (R), 4.184 (specific heat of water, and either joules to calories or the other way around), 2.178×10^-18 (some number for figuring out what level n an electron is at), 6.022×10^23 (atoms per mole), 6.626×10^-34 (Planck’s constant) … some others, but I couldn’t remember a little while ago if it’s one inch to 2.45 cm or 2.54 cm. O_o 54! FIVE-FOUR!

I actually put in 1.08206 instead of 1.0825 for tax. *sweatdrop*

Curse you, chemistry! *shakes fist*

use the spork, Luke

I live in a family of dorks, muahahaha.

Last week I went with Mum to the market and I bought a box of Honey Smacks. I didn’t notice when I grabbed it that they were giving something away inside (although Mace Windu posing on the box should have been a big clue), but they were. A “light-up saberSPOON.”

Next morning Mum told me about the spoony goodness. She said when Daddy saw the box he opened it up, took out the spoon and assembled it together. Then she said she wanted to show it to me, but she couldn’t find it, so maybe Daddy took it with him. I said, “Did Daddy take it to school to show his frieeends?”

So when he came home I asked him if he took it to work and he said yeah. I said, “Did you show it to everyone?” “Not everyone, but I showed some people.”

My dad is over 50. He works on computers. And he shows up to work with a “saberspoon” that lights up. *grin*

Then Mum made a comment about how it should have been a fork, not a spoon (Simpsons reference…), and that maybe we should cut it up to make it into a fork. But, my brother took that idea and … see for yourself. [He cut notches out of the end of the spoon, turning it into a spork.]

I love my family.

(Also, false advertising!! It doesn’t light up all the way!)

webcast Roasted

I watched most of the Weenie Roast webcast today. Erm. Well not watched, exactly, but listened. I watched most parts of The Killers onstage though. They played a new song! I really really like it! XD I think they said (not at Weenie Roast) that they’re going to start recording their new album, and it’ll probably come out this time next year … pooh. Long time. Not as long as Evanescence though. >.> I think theirs is coming out November or so. That’s info that some Italian (…?) company received.

I think I like listening to KROQ more lately because of all the “retro” bands or, as Hidek says, bands copying The Strokes. *shrug* I mean, I guess it’s true. It’s a money-maker, so record companies are signing more of them … more goody for me then. ^^

Oh yeah. I’ve changed my mind. I like Hot Hot Heat. Their first single, Bandages, was repetitive … but their other songs aren’t as much. I think. And it’s fun peppy music. So I add it to my list, muahaha. Dood, so many bands were wearing black! Some looked like they were dying … or wouldn’t have minded a jump in a pool of ice. hah.

GJ iz LJ omg!

Fudge. There’s an update to the update for WordPress. >_> But it’s only to fix something with the feeds, trackbacks and pingbacks. (Or so they say.) Since I don’t use those (I think?), I won’t upgrade for a while. >b

I don’t understand something. On GreatestJournal, they’ve changed to the new update page that Livejournal put up a while ago. (Checked past news: September of last year.) I‘m happy, because I’ve been waiting for it for a while … I like seeing what icon and mood I’m going to use. But then other people are complaining because it’s too confusing, or it’s stupid, or it’s ugly, or it’s too big (that one I agree with, although on IE it’s not? weird), or it’s too much like LJ.

That last one I don’t understand. People keep commenting on that news update entry that GJ should stop copying LJ. Huh? Hasn’t it always copied LJ? (Well, not always, like with their tags…) Isn’t the whole system just based on LJ? *snerk*

I don’t remember what I first thought of the new update page. Maybe I wanted the old one back for a few days because of that “Paid Account options” box, and some other things they worked out, but I got used to it. I like the new update page … I wouldn’t want any other. So nice and neat and organized. Instead of a plain text list of options that you’d have to go to another page entirely for … Sometimes I’d get the options mixed up if I wasn’t paying attention. ^^;;

Some people said they liked GJ better because it wasn’t LJ. That just completely confused me. What’s wrong with LJ? Seriously, I don’t know. I don’t pay attention to what other people say about LJ much. The only stereotype/generalization I know of any LJ source code-based journal site is that LJ is teen-filled with all teh angstness and drama.

Oh well. Yes, I’m being “lamezorz” and talking about LJ and GJ on my WP-based blog. *snerk*

Bedtime now, yayayay … *hoppy* ‘Tis so hot though… (I don’t like WordPress changing my three dots into that one ASCII character, whatever it is … alt code 0133)
